Plants undergo secondary growth as new cells emerge from rings of stem cells, called cambium, expanding outward and breaking through the outer layers. I am fascinated by the tension between the plants’ calm exterior and the energetic interior. My piece on secondary growth expresses this contrast by abstracting 2D motifs from plant stem histology and reimagining them in 3D form. Layered clear and blurred acrylic panels create obscurity, while small openings reveal plant-like shapes of stretched fabric that extend dynamically, evoking the continuous process of growth and transformation.
